Rooted in Mexico City's psychedelic scene of the '70s, Pérez developed a unique fusion of indigenous sound and electronics, eventually earning the name Ixoneztli ("one who makes music") from legendary healer Pachita. Originally released in 1981 with government support, Ipan In Xiktli Metztli ("In the Navel of the Moon") became a foundational record for Mexico's ethno-experimental music movement.
