Intercommunal Free Dance Music Orchestra

Le Musichien

François Tusques founded the Intercommunal Free Dance Music Orchestra in 1971 to push jazz beyond its limits, blending free jazz with Musique Populaire Française. Le Musichien (1981) and Les Amis D'Afrique (1982) continued this vision, featuring a diverse lineup of musicians and influences from Afro-Catalan tales to modal jazz in the spirit of Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders. A true "people's jazz workshop," the orchestra created an explosive, boundary-pushing sound meant for the whole world.
